Tiny Tykes Playgroup

This 6-week playgroup is for children 18-30 months old with a caregiver.  Children will enjoy a curriculum, rich with developmental opportunities! Activities will include: free play, snack, craft, gross motor play, and a circle time with stories and songs.

*Please bring a NUT-FREE snack from home.

*Transportation Available Upon Request.

Pediatric First Aid & CPR for Parents

This 2 part workshop, teaches participants how to manage sudden illness and injuries in a child during the first few minutes until health professionals arrive.  Topics include first aid basics, medical emergencies, injuries, asthma care, AND infant and child CPR.

NOTE: Participation in this workshop does not result in certification, it is strickly informational.

Here is your opportunity to take some time for you! Clear your mind of carpools, work, laundry, and all of your other day to day stressors during this 75 minute workshop. Focus on your breathing and learn techniques you can use throughout the day to calm your mind!

The Testing Child– May 2

  • Explains why children test and repeat negative behaviors.
  • Helps understand a child’s motives when behaving negatively.
  • Learn how to better understand your child.
  • Gain wisdom and ability to step back and assess a situation with clarity and confidence.

Modifying Your Child’s Behaviors: Discipline vs. Punishment– May 9

  • Learn concrete strategies for changing behaviors and when to use each strategy.
  • Discuss a variety of interventions and have an opportunity to ask questions about your own circumstances.
  • Become empowered with new skills!

Talking Time Outs: If, When, Why and How to Give Time Outs– May 16

  • Explore the pros and cons to giving time outs and the alternatives.
  • Learn what a time out actually is, when it is appropriate to use, and how to give one effectively.
  • Discuss challenges such as varying locations and willful children.
  • Learn strategies to teach your children how to calm down and reorganize.

Toddlers, Tantrums and Melt Downs Oh My!!!!- May 23

  • Understand why children often have tantrums.
  • Learn how to avoid and handle tantrums in various settings.

Child’s Play: Can’t We All Get Along?- June 6

  • Learn strategies to teach your children how to share and take turns.
  • Learn how to address grabbing, pushing, hording, and forfeiting toys.

Discipline with Love & Guidance– June 13

  • Learn positive child rearing skills.
  • Lessen the amount of frustration, yelling and punishments used with your child.
  • Your kids and your sanity will thank you for coming!

Since our quarterly schedule is brand new! We wanted to remind you all that our open gym and drop in times have changed. Open gym times are no longer age specific, but we will be putting out more “big kid” equipment for our afternoon times.  Open gym is located in The Cole Center gym on your left when you walk through the doors and Drop-In is in the NECN Playroom (take a right at the first hallway, we are the last door on the right). Please remember to sign in with first and last names. Hope to see you all soon!

Wednesday, April 6, 2011 from 7:00 – 8:30pm at NECN, 179 Boden Lane, Natick.

The workshop, entitled Talking About Touching will include a viewing of the film, What Do I Say Now? and a discussion to assist parents in talking with their children about personal safety rules and touching safety.  Facilitated by Judith A. Dixon, M.Ed. and Talking About Touching trainer.
