2011 September/October Newsletter & Activities

2011 September/October Calendars

Welcome Back!

Hello Natick Families!

I hope you all had a great summer and had an opportunity to relax and enjoy the beautiful weather!

Fall is on its way and NECN is gearing up! We have some great opportunities for you this year and the Sept/Oct newsletter will be available for you very soon! In the meantime, please come join me in the playroom for a drop-in playgroup on Wednesdays, August 24th and 31st from 9:30-10:30a for children birth-K with an adult and on the common at the Natick Farmer’s Market Saturday, August 27th from 9a-1p!

I would like to share with you the unfortunate news that our grant funding has been cut another 4.75% this year.  This cut was state-wide and effects all of the other Coordinated Family and Community Engagement grantees.  We saved as much of our direct service programs as possible (playgroups, parent workshops, drop-in and open gym), but we need your support now more than ever!

If you have found our free programs and resources to be useful to you and your family over the years, please consider helping to support and sustain our organization through the following volunteer opportunities:

  • Facilitating a parent/child playgroup
  • Providing child care for parent workshops
  • Helping to organize fundraisers
  • Becoming an advocate for NECN
  • Collating newsletters
  • Delivering “Welcome Baby” bags

*Call 508-655-2557 for more information.

In order to save programs we were forced to cut our funds for supplies, so while you are out getting ready for the start of the school year, please also consider donating these needed items:

  • Goldfish/Animal Crackers
  • Apple Juice
  • Colored Laser Copy Paper
  • Glue Sticks
  • Tissues
  • Clorox Anywhere Spray

* Items can be dropped off at 179 Boden Lane.

I’d like to be clear that, although our funding has been decreased, you are our priority and we aren’t going anywhere! When deciding where to cut money from our budget, a lot of thought went into the feedback we received from you last year as well as attendance records and I feel strongly that we are spending our money in the most effective and beneficial places for Natick families.  If you are interested in learning more about our grant and where money is spent, the Parent Programming Committee meets bi-monthly and helps advise the Program Coordinator regarding programmatic decisions.

Thank you for your time in reading this message! Stay tuned for the Sept/Oct Newsletter and Activities! I look forward to sharing another year with all of you!

Best Wishes,

Lindsey Tarrant

Program Coordinator
